El Tachismo (en francés, Tachisme, derivado de la palabra francesa tache - mancha) fue un estilo de pintura abstracta francés desarrollado durante los años 1940 y 1950
“Un arte diferente” en el cual el rechazo de la forma se afirma como una negación del principio de la razón. Inmediatamente después de la segunda guerra mundial, Georges Mathieu da a esta nueva corriente del arte el nombre de “abstracción lírica”. Reune un gran número de artistas de nacionalidades diferentes.
Se rechaza el control de la razón ; lo informal tiende hacia la caligrafía y el lirismo de las materias. La improvisación psíquica es la regla ; con frecuencia la obra se ejecuta en el instante según técnicas gestuales diversas.
Algunos de sus miembros eran Jean Dubuffet, Pierre Soulages, Nicholas de Stael, Hans Hartung, Serge Poliakoff, y Georges Mathieu, entre otros.
